A new flagship Snapdragon SoC is expected to arrive later this month at the annual Qualcomm Summit 2021. While rumours are rife that the chipset will be dubbed as Snapdragon 898, the company has confirmed the SoC will have a slightly simplified and consistent naming structure with a single-digit series and generation number. This suggest that the Snapdragon 898 SoC could in fact be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It will power most high-end Android flagships in the coming year. There are also rumours that Xiaomi and Motorola are working on launching their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 aka Snapdragon 898-powered smartphones by the end of 2021. The new chipset is expected to use a 4nm fabrication process and the X65 5G modem. It’ll undoubtedly be the fastest Snapdragon chipset, with improved performance, better efficiency, and faster GPU than last year’s Snapdragon 888 SoC. Here’s a quick look at the upcoming smartphones expected to use the Snapdragon 898 chipset.
