The much-anticipated Jio Phone Next, a budget Android-based smartphone made by Google and Jio, will go on sale starting today. In order to buy the smartphone, you need to register your interest for it with the company, a process that can be done via three channels. The smartphone runs Pragati OS, a lightweight operating system powered by an “extremely optimised” version of Android which includes other customised features – including translating text on the screen to as many as 10 Indian languages. The Jio Phone Next price in India is Rs 6,499 for those purchasing the smartphone via one-time payment, though there are EMI options too if you make a down payment of Rs 1,999.

How to buy Jio Phone Next
To buy Jio Phone Next, you need to head to the official website and register your interest in it. The process for the same is below:
- Go to the official website and enter your name and mobile number.
- On the next page, after entering the OTP, you will have to enter your location and address.
- Based on the location, Jio will inform you whenever the smartphone becomes available at a partner retail store for you to make the payment and pick up
If you want to register interest via WhatsApp, you can do that too:
- Send the message “Hi” to +91 70182-70182 on WhatsApp
- Upon receiving a message from Jio, tap on the Confirm Interest button
- Then you will be asked to enter your name
- The next message will ask you to share your current location. Based off of this location data, Jio will inform you if a retailer has a unit available

Jio Phone Next specifications
The Jio Phone Next specifications and features include a 5.45-inch HD+ display with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM. There’s 32GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable to up to 512GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. In terms of optics, it has a 13MP rear camera and 8MP selfie shooter.
In terms of battery, the smartphone features a 3,500mAh battery, which is charged via a micro USB port. The connectivity options on the Jio Phone Next include Dual-SIM support with 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, microUSB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors present on the smartphone are an accelerometer, light sensor, and proximity sensor. There is no support for gyroscope sensor.
The Jio Phone Next runs on Pragati OS that is powered by Android. As stated above, the Jio Phone Next will be available for a cost of only Rs 6,499; however, this price is only for one-time payment. Alternatively, you can buy the smartphone on EMIs after paying a down payment of Rs 1,999. The EMIs will be paid in the form of recharges for the smartphone; the prepaid recharge packs come with bundled data and calling. There are four recharge packs to choose from, which we have detailed in depth. On top of this, you will have to pay a processing fee of Rs 501. In case you don’t make the payments on time, it seems the phone may even be remotely locked by the company.
