Apple’s November event reportedly cancelled; new MacBook Air now tipped to launch in 2022

Highlights
  • Apple last week held its Unleashed event, wherein it unveiled new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
  • New Apple MacBook Air was supposed to launch next month, like its predecessor in 2020.
  • No other major announcements from Apple are expected this year.

After last week’s highly anticipated Unleashed event from Apple, fans were desperately waiting for the next-gen MacBook Air. Like last year’s Apple MacBook Air M1 launch, everyone was waiting for its successor in November this year. But, according to the latest edition of his Power On newsletter in Bloomberg, Mark Gurman says that he “wouldn’t expect” a third event from Apple this year, nor should we expect “any other major announcements.” While other reports previously also suggested that Apple would announce its new Mac Mini at the November event, Gurman also says that this — along with a new larger Apple Silicon-powered iMac, iPhone SE 3, and new iPad Pro — will launch in 2022.

Gurman further states that MacBook Air with an entirely new design and an Apple-designed M2 chip will launch in around six to eight months from now. He believes the upcoming model will represent the biggest redesign of the Air models since 2010. There were further reports stating that the upcoming new MacBook Air will feature an increased number of graphics cores paired with the same number (but faster) computing cores than the M1.

Of course, the worldwide chipset shortage might have something to do with this delay but it’s much more likely that Apple wants to give the redesigned MacBook Air as much limelight as possible. With the holiday quarter buzzing with what is being generally considered the best refresh of the MacBook Pro models in almost a decade, the next-gen Air may get a muted response. There’s also the fact that a great MacBook Air will likely take away some sales from the new Pro.

So by all of these announcements, we can conclude that all of the upcoming devices on the company’s roadmap will launch in 2022 only.
