Amazon Prime subscription launched in India way back in 2016 at an introductory price of Rs 499. The e-commerce giant later hiked the plan to Rs 999, which is still a better deal considering the benefits it brings. Amazon Prime members get exclusive access to deals one day early, access to Prime Video content, Prime Music, one-day deliveries, among others. The e-commerce giant has become a household name thanks to its substantial growth over the year. Now, Amazon is getting ready for another price hike in India. The annual Prime membership will soon cost Rs 1,499 per year.

Amazon Prime membership price hike to affect Airtel and Jio bundled plans
While 50 percent price change for the Amazon Prime subscription itself is something that could be hard to deal with for some, the Q&A section detailing the price hike confirms telecom networks that provide Amazon Prime subscription as a bundled offering will also see a price hike. This is definitely a big change associated with the Prime membership. Currently, Jio Postpaid Plus plans starting from Rs 399 offer bundled Amazon Prime membership. Similarly, Airtel also offers membership to its various prepaid and postpaid plans. We can expect a price hike for these plans in the days to come.
The Q&A page hasn’t mentioned when exactly the price hike will become effective but Amazon assured that it will announce the exact date of price change at a later time and that it will not auto-renew the membership for the new price automatically. We expect the new membership price will be effective after the ongoing festive sale period, probably in November.
Now that Amazon has confirmed the telecom operators like Airtel and Jio will hike the prices of their bundled mobile recharge plans, we speculate a similar step for broadband plans as well. Airtel and Jio broadband plans that cost Rs 999 and above bundle Prime membership and even they could see a price change soon.
