Realme ‘Make in India’ smartphones heading to Nepal; AIoT products likely to follow suit

Highlights
  • Realme will export its ‘made in India’ smartphones to Nepal.
  • Other AIoT products such as TWS earbuds and smartwatches should follow suit soon.
  • Realme aims to become the second-largest smartphone brand in Nepal by 2022.

Realme, much like several other Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo, assemble their smartphones locally, though many of the components have to be flown in from elsewhere. This is done to prevent the near impossible-to-navigate labyrinth of red tape when dealing with imported goods. Now, Realme India has stated that it will export its ‘Make in India’ smartphones to Nepal. It seems that Realme’s production capabilities are enough to satiate local demand and cater to international orders. Nepal is a good place to start, too, as it shares a border with India. Madhav Sheth, Vice President, realme and Chief Executive Officer had the following to say:

It is yet another feather in the cap of Realme’s remarkable journey and an immensely proud moment where realme will be exporting ‘Make in India smartphones to our neighbour Nepal. Adding to this we will also be exporting our AIOT products very soon. We have received great success in India and will look forward to receiving a similar achievement in Nepal where we are providing our latest and innovative products at democratized prices. Our aim is to be among the TOP 2 smartphone brands in Nepal by 2022. As I embark on this newly added role to lead Realme’s Nepal operations, I am really thrilled and looking forward to bringing fantastic realme products to Nepal users’

Realme, in particular, has been focusing on establishing its presence in several South-East Asian countries. It already has a significant market share in the Phillippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and is now shifting focus to other smaller countries like Nepal. Logically, its next step would be to capture the African market, which is largely dominated by companies such as iTel and Tecno, which fall under the Transsion group.
