PUBG Mobile and Free Fire are popular mobile battle royale mobile games. The games have gained significant popularity in recent times thanks to a massive active user base. However, in a recent development, Asha Kumari B.K., a member of the house of Representatives, has demanded action against online games, citing concerns of mental health. Speaking at the Zero Hour in Nepal’s House of Representatives on July 27th, 2021, CPN-UML MP Asha Kumari B.K has raised her voice against online games owing to their harmful effects. According to her, internet use has increased considerably but the addiction to online games such as PUBG and Free Fire is alarming.
“Online games like PUBG Mobile and Free Fire have a detrimental effect on the mental well-being of children. I would like to bring this matter to the attention of the government through the Speaker. Otherwise, there might be a day when guardians and parents might knock on the court’s door seeking justice,” said Asha Kumari as per a SportsKeeda report.
Games like PUBG Mobile and Free Fire are apparently causing adverse mental effects on children as they are reportedly displaying anxiety, lack of concentration, and agitation. She opined that taking action for the betterment of children is crucial in the wake of severe consequences the games are having on them. Notably, PUBG Mobile was temporarily banned in Nepal back in 2019 but the game had managed to come back after the country’s apex court had reversed the ban. One has to see what would be the outcome of CPN-UML MP Asha Kumari B.K in the parliament.
In India, PUBG Mobile was banned last year and made its return earlier this month in the form of Battlegrounds Mobile India. The game has been released on Android and has already garnered millions of active users.
