POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: prices in India

With POCO M3 Pro 5G set to launch in India as well, we expect the phone to get a starting price of Rs 13,999 that goes up to 16,999 for the top-end variant.

Talking about the Realme 8 5G, this is the most affordable 5G phone available in India right now at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB + 64GB model. Besides that, you also have the 4GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB variants that are priced at Rs 14,999 and Rs 16,999 respectively. Realme 8 5G can be brought from the Realme website and Flipkart in the country.

POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: design

Looks play a crucial role in people buying a phone. And if given a choice, we would pick the POCO M3 Pro 5G over Realme 8 5G. The main reason is the design appeal of POCO M3 Pro 5G is higher than for the Realme 8 5G. At the front, the screen houses a punch hole layout at the top-centre on the POCO M3 Pro 5G.

POCO M3 Pro 5G

While the Realme 8 5G punch-hole design sits on the top-left corner. Barring this difference, the screen dimensions are the same. However, Realme 8 5G gets top points for being thinner and marginally lighter than the POCO M3 Pro 5G. At the back, the contest is convincingly won by POCO M3 Pro 5G. The big ‘POCO’ branding might be dithering to a few, but the camera module layout and dual-tone finish are unique and we like it.

Realme 8 5G back panel gets a glossy plastic finish, and the camera layout has been done to death now. So, fewer marks for lack of inventiveness from the brand. So if the design of a phone is a big criterion for your buying decision, POCO M3 Pro 5G gets our vote.

POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: display

The display segment of our comparison will be short because there’s very little to separate between the two. Both POCO M3 Pro 5G and Realme 8 5G feature a 6.5-inch LCD screen that supports Full HD+ resolution along with a 90Hz refresh rate. The minor thing to note is that POCO M3 Pro 5G screen gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while the Realme 8 5G’s screen protection has not been disclosed. The screens of both these devices offer a pixel density of 405 PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 83 per cent.

POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: specifications and features

As we have already mentioned, POCO M3 Pro 5G and Realme 8 5G use the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 octa-core chipset for performance and support the 5G network. At these prices, you are getting future-ready devices, even if 5G networks are not going to be available in India at least till next year. POCO M3 Pro 5G gets two variants, you have the 4GB + 64GB and the 6GB + 128GB model. While Realme 8 5G is available with up to 8GB RAM and offered in three variants with 64GB and 128GB internal storage. Both the phones come with a memory card slot for storage expansion.

POCO M3 Pro 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery, like the Realme 8 5G, and both the units support 18W fast charging which might sound slow for the price these days. You get a USB Type C 2.0 interface on both the phones, headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1, and Wi-Fi for connectivity.

POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: camera

Realme 8 5G

Even in the imaging department, both the brands have used similar primary cameras and system. POCO M3 Pro 5G and Realme 8 5G come equipped with a triple rear camera that houses a 48MP primary sensor, 2MP macro sensor, and 2MP depth sensor. The lack of an ultra-wide sensor has been highlighted in our Realme 8 5G review and that will be the case with POCO M3 Pro 5G as well.

However, on the front, POCO M3 Pro 5G has opted to give an 8MP selfie camera, while Realme 8 5G offers a 16MP camera for selfies, video calls and more. Will the extra megapixels on the Realme 8 5G make a difference? We’ll know soon.

POCO M3 Pro 5G vs Realme 8 5G: conclusion

So, there you have it. The POCO M3 Pro 5G and Realme 8 5G are identical in more ways than we imagined. When we sat down to write this comparison, it felt like having the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset will be the biggest common point between the two. Turns out, there are more. However, POCO M3 Pro 5G is definitely a better-looking device than the Realme 8 5G. Now it all comes down to the POCO M3 Pro 5G price in India when it launches in the country. Till then, Realme 8 5G gets the laurel for being the most affordable 5G phone in the market.
