The new OnePlus 9 and the Realme GT are both Snapdragon 888-powered smartphones that were launched within weeks of each other. OnePlus 9, of course, is the new flagship that is grabbing all the headlines and offers specifications such as Hasselblad camera, 65W wired charging, 120Hz refresh rate, and is set to hit the Indian market on April 15th. Realme GT specifications are along the same lines too, and while the phone was recently caught cheating on the AnTuTu benchmark it is still a competent device with top-of-the-line hardware. We already know the Realme GT India launch is on the cards too. So the question really is whether you should go for the new OnePlus model or hang back a little and wait for the Realme handset. Let’s take a look at the Realme GT and OnePlus 9 price in India, specifications, features, and design to see which smartphone emerges as the winner.
OnePlus 9 vs Realme GT: Prices in India
Model | Variant | Price |
OnePlus 9 | 8GB + 128GB | Rs 49,999 |
12GB + 256GB | Rs 54,999 | |
Realme GT | 8GB + 128GB | RMB 2,799 (~Rs 31,400) |
12GB + 256GB | RMB 3,299 (~Rs 37,000) |
The OnePlus 9 prices in India are officially known already as the phone launched last night. Its base 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at Rs 49,999, while the 12GB + 256GB option costs Rs 54,999. As mentioned above, the OnePlus 9 first sale date in India is April 15th, with a Rs 3,000 instant discount for SBI credit card holders. The phone comes in Winter Mist, Arctic Sky, and Astral Black colours.
As for the Realme GT price, we, of course, don’t know how much the phone will cost in the Indian market yet. However, we do have the China prices of the smartphone: the Realme GT price for the entry-level variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is RMB 2,799 (about 31,400). Similarly, the phone’s 12GB + 256GB option costs RMB 3,299 (roughly Rs 37,000). Going by these prices, we can estimate that the Realme GT price in India should be lower than that of the OnePlus 9’s once the former arrives in the country.

OnePlus 9 vs Realme GT: Specifications
As mentioned earlier, both the OnePlus 9 and Realme GT come with the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both smartphones use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, so there isn’t much of a difference there. Neither device comes with a microSD card slot, unfortunately. It all boils down to the software optimisations offered by Realme UI and OxygenOS. Both the Realme GT and OnePlus 9 pack an identical 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging at 65W, although the former uses OPPO’s Super VOOC technology, whereas the latter employs its proprietary in-house tech. Wireless charging is absent on the Realme handset, while OnePlus 9 buyers can enjoy 15W wireless charging speeds. Both smartphones have an under-display fingerprint sensor and support Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and lack a 3.5mm audio jack.
OnePlus 9 vs Realme GT: Display and design
Once again, the Realme GT and OnePlus 9 come with nearly-identical display specifications. The OnePlus 9 has a slightly larger 6.5-inch FHD+ Fluid AMOLED panel clocked at 120Hz, compared to the Realme GT’s 6.4-inch screen, which happens to have the same specifications. However, the OnePlus 9’s screen is HDR10+ certified, allowing it to display significantly more colours compared to the Realme GT.
Moving on to the design, the Realme GT’s screen is protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The OnePlus 9 has the same protection, on both the front and the back. The former’s rear panel packs a little more pizazz with its leather finish and camera module design, while the latter gets a glass back and a huge protruding camera module with Hasselblad branding.
OnePlus 9 vs Realme GT: Cameras
Here’s where the OnePlus 9 finally begins to take its lead over the Realme GT. It is the first-ever smartphone to come with Hasselblad certification and packs a 48MP primary sensor, 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. It also gets the new Hasselblad-powered Pro mode that lets you manually adjust the ISO, exposure time, white balance, focus, etc. That is significantly better than the Realme GT’s 64MP wide-angle lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2MP depth sensors. Both smartphones come with a 16MP module at the front. The OnePlus 9 also supports video recording at 8K 30 FPS, too, something that the Realme GT can’t pull off.
OnePlus 9 vs Realme GT: conclusion
Given the nearly identical specifications of either device, it is hard to tell which one is superior. While the Realme GT offers much better value for your money, the OnePlus 9 comes with guaranteed software and after-sales support, something that is a tad lacking with Realme. Moreover, the Hasselblad cameras on the OnePlus 9 give it a definite edge over the rival. So, at least on paper, if you want a phone that packs a lot of power without burning a huge hole in your pocket, the Realme model is a good choice. On the other hand, if performance and cameras is something you desire, without a budget constraint, the OnePlus phone is a better option.
