Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ laptop announced with 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake CPUs, removable SSD, and more

Highlights
  • Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Pro 7+ laptop, but only businesses and educational institutions can buy it for now
  • Some key Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ specifications include a 12.3-inch screen, 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake CPUs, nano-SIM card slot, and a removable SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ price is set at $899 (approx Rs. 66,000) for the Wi-Fi models and $1,149 (approx Rs. 84,400) for the LTE variants

The Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ laptop is finally here. It is one of the very few laptops that ship with a user-replaceable SSD. The internals get a fresh coat of paint too, with the Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ including LTE connectivity. Microsoft has stated that the Surface Pro 7+ will only be sold to businesses and corporations, with the price set at $899 (approx Rs. 66,000) for the Wi-Fi models and $1,149 (approx Rs. 84,400) for the LTE models. There is only one colour, namely Matte Black. The Microsoft Surface 7 Pro will start shipping on January 15th in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and several European countries.

Despite the great features, the laptop lacks a Thunderbolt port, which is unacceptable for a laptop at its price range. 5G connectivity would have been ideal too, as it is becoming increasingly commonplace across business and consumer laptops.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ specifications

The Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ comes with Intel’s newest 11th-generation Tiger Lake CPUs. Both the LTE and Wi-Fi CPUs can be configured with Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors, but the exact SKU changes based on your preference. The Wi-Fi variant maxes out at an Intel Core i7-1165G7. The LTE model maxes out at the Intel Core i5-1135G7. There is no option to add a dedicated graphics card, but the included Intel Iris Xe GPU should allow for some light gaming. Furthermore, the Wi-Fi variant supports up to 32GB of RAM, whereas the LTE variant can only do 16GB. Similarly, up to 1TB of storage can be added to the Wi-Fi variant. The LTE version has to make do with 256GB.

Both Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ variants come with a 12.3-inch PixelSense Display (2,736 x 1,824) resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio. Input options are a tad lacking, as the laptop only comes with one USB-C port, a USB-A port, the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the Surface Connect port. The Wi-Fi variant gets a microSD card slot and the LTE variant a nano-SIM card slot. Microsoft promises up to fifteen hours of battery life on the Surface 7 Pro+, thanks to its upgraded 50.4Wh battery.

Other Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ specifications include Wi-Fi 6 support, Bluetooth 5.0, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, Dolby Atmos-certified speakers, and a far-field microphone.
