[Exclusive] iQOO 9 India launch by early February, 120W charging and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in tow

Highlights
  • iQOO 9 series will launch in India by late January or early February 2022.
  • iQOO 9 flagship phone to feature 120W fast charging support.
  • iQOO has officially teased the upcoming flagship will get Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

iQOO 8 series hasn’t launched in India owing to the chip shortage and it looks like the brand has no plans for bringing it to the country. Now, 91mobiles has exclusively learned the iQOO 9 series India launch timeline, courtesy of industry sources. The company appears to be skipping iQOO 8 in favour of the iQOO 9 series and it will launch in India by late January or early February 2022. Our source further tells us that at least one model in the iQOO 9 series will come with 120W fast charging support in India. The lineup should have multiple models, including a vanilla iQOO 9 and a iQOO 9 Pro/Legend.

Separately, iQOO has confirmed that they will also launch a flagship powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which is likely the iQOO 9/ iQOO 9 Pro. The iQOO 9 has appeared on the IMEI database with the model number V2171A. Unfortunately, the iQOO 9 specifications are under wraps at the moment but we can speculate they will come with sizeable upgrades over the iQOO 8 series. The iQOO 9 phones could come with an AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, Android 12 with a new iQOO UI skin, a large primary camera sensor, and at least a 4,500mAh battery.

To recall the iQOO 8 specifications, it sports a 6.56-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 1,080 X 2,376 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 92.76 screen-to-body ratio, 398 PPI, and 19:8:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with Adreno 660 GPU. The phone packs up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and runs on Android 11-based iQOO skin on top. The phone is equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, 120W fast charging support, and 5G network connectivity.

Moving to optics, the phone has a triple camera setup on the back, with a 48MP Sony IMX598 sensor with an f/1.79 lens, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 lens, and a 13MP portrait lens with f/2.46 aperture. There is a 16MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats. It measures 159.06×75.14×8.63mm and weighs 199.9 grams. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth v5.2, and a USB Type-C port.
