Popular cab aggregator Ola had launched its first new scooters on the 15th of August this year. The Ola and Ola S1 Pro come with a 2.98kWh battery and a 3.97kWh battery respectively. Both the models have a peak power of 8.5kW and are said to have a range of 121km, with a top speed of 90kmph. Now according to a new report (via RushLane), Ola is planning to expand its lineup with multiple battery-powered two-wheelers in the near future.
The company is even intending to foray into the passenger vehicle segment and has reportedly hired key personnel for the development of an electric car. The next big launch from the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer though could be another electric scooter that will be more affordable than the current S1 range and would rival the already popular gasoline-based scooters like Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter.
Ola Series S coming soon?
Ola’s new e-scooter will be positioned below their S1 series and would be the entry-level model in the company’s two-wheeler lineup. It is likely to be called Ola Series S. Ola has already registered the name. The new scooter misses out on certain features to make it more cost-friendly. The most effective way to cut costs is to replace the current 3kWh battery in S1 with a lower-rated battery. This battery could send energy to an electric motor with a smaller capacity. This would also result in more battery life and a lower single-charge range as well.
Ola is also expected to cut down on some advanced features such as a touchscreen display, cruise control, speakers, and keyless ignition which are present in their S1 series. Other premium offerings such as remote boot lock/unlock, proximity lock/unlock, voice assistant, Wifi connectivity and geo-fencing are also likely to be given a miss. The new e-scooter might ride on simple steel wheels like its petrol counterparts instead of the 12-inch alloys found on the S1 series.
New Ola electric scooter price (expected)
The price of this new Ola e-scooter variant will also be less than its current offerings. The Ola S1 price in India starts at Rs 99,999, while the S1 Pro costs Rs 129,999. The prices can also go down further with FAME-II and individual state subsidies specially provided towards electric vehicles. The upcoming cheaper version of the Ola electric scooter is expected to be priced in the Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 range, making it a direct rival to India’s best-selling scooters such as Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, in terms of the price range.
