Samsung Galaxy S22 launch is expected in the first quarter of 2022. We have heard rumours about the phone running on either the Snapdragon 898 processor or a flagship Exynos chipset, depending on the region. Now, 91mobiles has discovered the Samsung Galaxy S22 on Geekbench with the model number SM-S901U. The ‘U’ in the model number suggests we are looking at the US variant. The Geekbench listing reveals key Samsung Galaxy S22 specifications, including the chipset, RAM, and Android software. This comes a few days after the Exynos 2200-powered Galaxy S22 (SM-S906B) appeared on Geekbench.
Samsung Galaxy S22 with Snapdragon 895 spotted on Geekbench
According to the Geekbench listing, the Samsung Galaxy S22 (SM-S901U) features a Qualcomm chipset with the ‘Taro’ codename. This is believed to be the Snapdragon 895 chipset, which is rumoured to be the name for the upcoming Snapdragon 888 successor. The Snapdragon 895 is rumoured to be based on the 4nm process and will be manufactured by Samsung.
The Geekbench reveals that the chipset is equipped with the Adreno 730 GPU. The Samsung Galaxy S22 variant we are looking at here comes with 8GB RAM and we expect to see a higher 12GB RAM option launch as well. Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S22 will ship with the latest Android 12 software, which doesn’t come as a surprise.
One of the reasons we believe this is the Snapdragon 895 and not the Snapdragon 898 is because the Geekbench scores are low compared to the Snapdragon 898-powered Vivo phone (V2102A) that appeared on the benchmark site not too long ago. It is also possible the SD898 and SD895 are the same processors. We expect to learn more about the Samsung Galaxy S22 specifications in the coming months as we lead up to the launch in early 2022.
