On Tuesday, AnandTech published an in-depth performance analysis of the OnePlus 9 Pro. It revealed that the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro have been limiting the performance of the Snapdragon 888 in almost all the popular applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge while delivering the full potential of the SoC in popular benchmarking apps. The only plausible explanation was that the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro are limiting the performance of the SoC to conserve battery life. Well, OnePlus has now broken its silence on the issue. The company has now issued a statement explaining why it is limiting the performance of the OnePlus 9 duo in popular apps.

OnePlus admits it is limiting the performance of OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro to conserve battery
OnePlus had shared a statement with XDA Developers regarding the matter. According to the company, it has been limiting the performance of the Snapdragon 888 in the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro to improve battery life and heat management. OnePlus says that it has been working on matching the processor’s power to meet the processing power requirements of the apps. According to the brand, it has taken this step in the light of initial user feedback which pointed out issues with the battery life and heat management of the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Below is the statement from the brand shared with XDA Developers.
“Our top priority is always delivering a great user experience with our products, based in part on acting quickly on important user feedback. Following the launch of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro in March, some users told us about some areas where we could improve the devices’ battery life and heat management.
As a result of this feedback, our R&D team has been working over the past few months to optimize the devices’ performance when using 300 of the most popular apps, including Chrome, by matching the app’s processor requirements with the most appropriate power.
This has helped to provide a smooth experience while reducing power consumption. While this may impact the devices’ performance in some benchmarking apps, our focus as always is to do what we can to improve the performance of the device for our users.“
