Xiaomi, as you may know, is working on MIUI 13, the next generation of its Android custom skin, which is expected to launch sometime in August. It’s rumoured to bring some significant improvements over last year’s MIUI 12.5 update. Key MIUI 13 features that were leaked a couple of days ago revealed it’ll come with memory expansion technology. This is said to allow phones with limited RAM to utilise a portion of the storage as RAM for better performance and multitasking. According to a new report, the MIUI 13 will allow any Xiaomi device to get an additional 3GB of RAM on top of the physical RAM on the phone. The report further added that the new Android custom skin will even have a toggle to turn the feature on or off.
The MIUI 13 memory expansion technology or virtual RAM is said to help old Xiaomi phones that have a limited amount of RAM. The feature will be similar to the virtual RAM feature seen in OPPO and Vivo smartphones.
MIUI 13 will allow Xiaomi phones to use part of the phone’s storage as RAM, a feature that can be turned on and off with a toggle.
MIUI 13 custom skin is also rumoured to come with some visual changes, new animations, new app icons, a game floating window, fresh wallpapers, and a layered rendering system. While Xiaomi CC 11 series and Mi MIX 4 are expected to be among the first devices to come with MIUI 13 custom skin out of the box, it’s likely to be rolled out to all Xiaomi phones launched in the previous two years. This is not surprising as the vendor is known for providing three MIUI updates for flagships as well as popular mid-rangers, and two MIUI updates for budget smartphones.
