iPhone 13 will reportedly support 25W charging; AirPods 3 launch timeline tipped too

Highlights
  • iPhone 13 series is said to herald the launch of the company’s 25W charging solution
  • This will be accompanied by the company’s 25W charging adaptor
  • AirPods 3 reportedly will also be unveiled at the iPhone 13 launch event

iPhone 13 launch is expected in September this year, with the smartphone rumoured to get several upgrades. Well adding to that list now is a boost in charging speeds — according to a new report by a Chinese website, the iPhone 13 series will support 25W fast-charging tech. This will be an upgrade over the 20W charging support that current-gen Apple smartphones offer. Along with this, a separate report claims that the iPhone 13 lineup will be accompanied by the long-rumoured AirPods 3 TWS earbuds. Let’s dive into the details for these two reports:

iPhone 13 with 25W fast-charging support

The MyDrivers report claims that the iPhone 13 lineup will support 25W charging. The iPhone 12 models support 20W charging, while the iPhone 11 series from 2019 offers 18W charging. The report says the upcoming 25W charging won’t bring a drastic change in charging speeds for the phone. The launch of this 25W solution will be accompanied by a 25W adaptor, which is not a surprise. Considering the current 20W adaptor is priced at Rs 1,899 in India, so you can expect the 25W brick to cost a little over Rs 2,000 in the country.

The iPhone 13 series is said to include four models: the standard 13, the mini, the Pro, and the Pro Max. This lineup is the same as iPhone 12 series from 2020, which saw the 12 mini not doing too well in shipment terms. As for the what to expect from iPhone 13 series, leaked specifications point to a small upgrade over the current flagships. New features expected on the 2021 Apple phones include a smaller notch, 120Hz refresh rate, Always-On Display functionality, lower power consumption panels, a more powerful A15 chipset, up to 1TB storage, bigger camera sensors, and better battery life.

At 25W charging speeds, iPhone 13 series will lag far behind the competition. Samsung offers maximum charging speeds of 45W already and is working on a 65W solution for Galaxy S22 series too. Chinese rivals such as Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and OPPO already offer 120W charging on premium smartphones and 65W charging on mid-range models. Xiaomi has already announced a 200W charging tech that can fully charge a phone in just 8 minutes, which will reportedly launch in 2022.

AirPods 3 launching alongside iPhone 13

AirPods 3 leaked design

Another Chinese publication, Digitimes, has reported that there is a good chance that AirPods 3 will be launched alongside the iPhone 13 series at the September event. The publication’s sources claim that shipments of flexible PCBs and SiP being used in AirPods 3 is being scaled for Q3 and Q4 2021. While the initial plan was to release the third-generation AirPods in early 2021, the resources were dedicated to the 2021 iPhone and Apple Watch models instead. The report also claims the AirPods 3 will be budget-friendly, but without any price band to indicate how much buyers can expect to spend.

AirPods 3 are tipped to feature design similar to the AirPods Pro, with removable in-ear tips, relocated pressure ports, and shorter stems. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) will be the headlining feature of the third-gen Apple earbuds, redesigned case, while other leaks pointing to new wireless chips.

You can also expect Apple to launch the Apple Watch Series 7 and a new HomePod speaker at the September event, alongside perhaps new MacBook models.
