PS5 pre-orders in India are already getting cancelled by this retailer

Highlights
  • PS5 pre-orders in India went live on Tuesday at 12 noon
  • The console sold out within seconds on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and more
  • Reliance Digital has started cancelling several PS5 pre-orders in India

PS5 pre-orders in India kicked off on Tuesday, January 12th at 12 noon and lasted only for a few seconds. Platforms like Amazon and Flipkart barely opened pre-orders while some other channels managed to curiously stay available for a good 15-30 minutes. Reliance Digital was one of the very few websites that managed to take pre-orders and leave anxious fans happy. However, it seems Reliance Digital may have taken more orders than it would like as several customers have found that their PS5 pre-orders have been cancelled.

Reliance Digital cancels a customer’s PS5 pre-order after confirmation.

On Wednesday morning, several customers who managed to pre-order and pay for the PS5 Blu-ray edition through Reliance Digital found out that their order had been cancelled. Many buyers have also taken to Twitter to express their disappointment after seeing that their confirmed order had been cancelled. As of now, this seems to be the case with PS5 pre-orders on Reliance Digital only. Those who managed to purchase the console through Amazon, Croma, and other channels seems to be safe.

This doesn’t come as a surprise given how Sony India has been handling the PS5 India launch. The console was released globally in short stock in December while its launch in India is set for February 2nd. Recent reports have claimed that PS5 units in India will be limited and we can expect only around 12,000 to 15,000 units available across India on launch day.

PS5 Digital Edition launch has also been delayed indefinitely, which means only the more expensive Blu-ray model will be available on launch day. Given how pre-orders for the PS5 were sold out in just seconds, we are likely to see a similar situation on February 2nd as well. As for the cancelled pre-orders, Reliance Digital will likely issue a refund to customers soon.
