Indian Gadget Awards — Best Gadget of 2020: the ultimate piece of tech you can own

It is always difficult to pinpoint that one gadget, the one piece of technology, that really stood out from all others. 2020, however, gave us all a very clear target to aim at, and technology companies around the world matched it well. As a result, the best gadget of 2020 is one that can wear multiple hats, and handle a variety of different use cases, and also bringing innovation that will take the industry forward. Our 30-member jury at the Indian Gadget Awards summed up all of these factors, to narrow down on what we all believe is the best of all gadgets in 2020.

The Best Gadget of 2020 is: Apple MacBook Air M1

The MacBook Air has always been a product of massive interest in the Apple portfolio. It comes with competitive pricing for ultrabooks, is one of the most well-built and best-designed ones in this category, and offers a premium overall appeal as well. Now, with the new Apple M1 processor, it is also a powerful laptop without compromising on its famed battery life and longevity. It literally ticks all the checkboxes with its performance, looks, durability, practicality, innovation, and so on, and as a result, is hands down the pick of our jury’s choice as the best gadget of 2020.

The runner-up for the Best Gadget of 2020 is: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 just could not be ignored this year. The smartphone has led the innovation for foldable phones with a hinge that is complex but durable, and an overall layout that will actually have practical use cases in the long run. It might be an expensive proposition right now, but early adopters always come at a premium. Seeing how much flagship phones already cost today, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2’s overall price is really not a surprise, when you account for all that it offers.

The other nominees for the best gadget of 2020 were:

Apple iPhone 12 Mini

Apple brought in a fourth member to its flagship smartphone family this year with the iPhone 12 Mini. The pint-sized iPhone is meant to give you the best features that Apple’s flagship iPhones can offer, without needing you to compulsorily use a large device.

Apple iPad Air

Ever wondered how cool would it be to get the best of performance from Apple’s flagship iPad Pro lineup, without actually having to buy an iPad Pro? The new iPad Air addresses exactly this, falling into the middle bracket that offers one of the snazziest iPad experiences of all time.

Microsoft Xbox Series X

Microsoft’s new generation gaming console is here, and it offers the chance for you to experience smooth 4K gaming for the first time in consoles. The new Xbox has enough firepower to last years, and with Microsoft’s increased gaming community efforts, is certainly not going to feel like a compromise at all.

Sony WH-1000XM4

The Sony over-ear flagship headphones, the WH-1000XM4 have further improved on the core audio delivery, while improving holistically on the experience that such ‘hearable’ products can offer. It can tune how it cancels noise according to where you are, and also lets you control your voice assistant while doing activities such as workouts.
