OnePlus 9 will reportedly miss out on this popular camera feature

Highlights
  • OnePlus 9 has been tipped to not feature a periscope lens on any of the models
  • OnePlus 9 is expected to launch in March next year
  • The brand has been tipped to launch at least three models in the OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus 9 series, which is expected to launch in March 2021, will not feature a periscope lens on any of the models, according to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station. While the leaked renders didn’t show that any of the models featured a periscope lens, the nod from this well-known and reliable tipster seemingly confirms that OnePlus will be opting out of this popular camera feature that is already present on flagship offerings from Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO, Realme, etc. For those of you who are unaware, the periscope lens is used in smartphones to offer enhanced optic zoom capabilities, which opens up a lot of photography opportunities as well.

Considering that the periscope lens has exclusively been used on the top-of-the-line flagship models from the brands till now, it should not come as a surprise that its implementation could drive up the cost of manufacturing. As OnePlus has built its brand from the ground-up by offering value-for-money devices, the exclusion of such a luxurious feature does make business sense.

OnePlus 9 leaked specifications

The OnePlus 9 is expected to pack a 6.55-inch FHD+ (1,080 x 2,400p) panel with 120Hz display refresh rate and 20:9 aspect ratio. The phone will most likely be powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, coupled with 8GB/12GB RAM and up to 256GB of built-in storage. On the software side, you can expect Android 11-based OxygenOS out of the box. The handset has been tipped to come with a 4,500mAh battery.

On the optics front, the OnePlus 9 is said to feature a 50MP primary wide-angle sensor (f/1.79), which will reportedly be marketed as ‘UltraVision’ and will be coupled with a 20MP Cine ultra-wide sensor (f/1.8) and a 12MP telephoto sensor with a large f/3.4 aperture and OIS.
