Mi 11 will not ship with bundled charger in retail box, company CEO Lei Jun confirms

Highlights
  • Xiaomi and Samsung earlier mocked Apple for removing bundled charger from iPhone 12 series retail boxes
  • Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun says removing bundled charger from Mi 11 will help the brand meet its environmental goals
  • Mi 11 leaked specs include Snapdragon 888 SoC, 6.7-inch AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate

Mi 11 will be the first phone from Xiaomi that will not ship with a bundled charger inside the phone’s retail box, company CEO Lei Jun has confirmed. This clearly seems to be a move inspired by Apple as the Cupertino-based brand was the first in the industry to take the bold move of not shipping phone’s charger inside the retail box, citing environmental concerns. However, the amusing aspect here is that Xiaomi mocked Apple’s move at the time when Apple announced its decision and the brand famously said, “Don’t worry, we didn’t leave anything out of the box with the Mi 10T Pro.” However, Xiaomi isn’t the first brand to take such a U-turn in the tech industry (removal of 3.5mm jack witnessed similar pattern) and we even expect Samsung to eat back its words next year as the brand’s upcoming phones are expected to ship without bundled chargers as well.

Jun shared the company’s decision on Weibo and shared that the upcoming Mi 11 flagship smartphone will not ship with a bundled charger due to the environmental goals that the brand has set for itself. There is hardly any doubt that as a result of this decision, the carbon footprint of the brand will definitely be reduced by a great extent but people who do not have spare chargers back at home will definitely be annoyed at the fact that they would not be able to use the phone without purchasing the additional accessory. Notably, in his post, Lei Jun has also shared the first look of the Mi 11 retail box, which highlights the number ’11’ and shows Harman Kardon audio branding at the top as well.

Coming to the Mi 11, the leaked specifications of the handset include Snapdragon 888 SoC, 6.7-inch AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate. As far as software is concerned, the phone will most likely run Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 out of the box. Moving on to the cameras, the Mi 11 is expected to sport triple rear cameras at the back with a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM3 Bright primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 5MP macro camera.
