TikTok is banned in India and YouTube could find no better time than this to bring an alternative- YouTube Shorts. Like Instagram Reels, the new YouTube Shorts is a short-form video creator embedded in the main app itself.
The feature will enable users to upload 15-second or less short-form videos using a bunch of new creator tools. Like TikTok, it includes a multi-segment camera that lets you attach multiple video clips together into one short clip.
YouTube will allow you to film short clips with background scores as well, courtesy of its vast library of licensed music. Also, there is a timer and countdown feature that you can use to control recording speed and creative options if you want.

YouTube Shorts offers the following features to video creators:

- Edit videos with a number of creative tools.
- Stitch shorter clips together with a multi-segment camera.
- Add music to videos from YouTube’s library.
- Speed up or slow down videos.
- Timers and countdowns.
How To Use YouTube Shorts
If you are in a bustle to test out the new YouTube feature, check this simple process-
First up, you need to check if you have access to the Shorts camera. To do so, just tap the ‘+’ icon that you will find at the bottom of the app’s navigation bar. The icon once tapped, select the Video option.
If you see ‘Create a short video,’ you have access to the Shorts camera, enabling the new set of editing tools.
Like the Instagram Reels, you can record short clips, add music that you will at the top of the screen, adjust the speed, or put timer and countdown for hands-free recording.
While these sound exciting, users should keep in note that the new YouTube Shorts has been rolled out in beta form and it is made available only in India as for now.
“We’re starting off by launching an early beta of YouTube Shorts in India. This includes a new camera and a handful of editing tools that will be rolling out over the course of the next few weeks. We’ll continue to add more features over the coming months,” YouTube mentioned in its blog post.
However, those who don’t have access to the Shorts camera can still upload vertical videos under 60 seconds long with the hashtag #Shorts in the title or description.
YouTube cites that although the Shorts is in the ‘early beta’ version, it has released the feature to get feedback from users to improve it. Although Instagram tried aping TikTok with its Reel feature, the initial feedback isn’t satisfactory. Still, given YouTube already has fame in the video entertainment biz, it may have a better chance to enthrall a broad audience.
