Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro are all over the news, thanks to a couple of major major leaks that revealed their complete design language. Going by the Pixel 7’s launch timeline last year, we expect the upcoming Pixel 8 flagships to launch around October. The Pixel 8 Pro, unlike the Pixel 7 Pro, appears to have a flat screen with no curved edges. Besides this, the phones are expected to bring some upgrades to the hardware.
If you’re wondering how the Google Pixel 8 series will be different from its predecessor on the design front, look no further.

No curved screen: The upcoming Google Pixel 8 Pro will have a flatter display with reduced curvature around the edges. This is one of the biggest aesthetic changes compaed to the Pixel 7 Pro, which shipped with a curved screen on the front. This isn’t surprising considering Samsung is expected to supply the Pixel 8 Pro’s display panel and the South Korean tech giant has also opted for flatter displays on its Ultra flagships in recent years.
Rounded corner: The corners on the Google Pixel 8 series are more rounded, as visible from the RAW close-up shots shared by tipster OnLeaks. The comparison shots below show the differences in the corners and rear camera module.
Camera module redesign: While the horizontal visor is still present on the rear panel, the camera placement has changed a bit on the Pixel 8 Pro. On the Pixel 7 Pro, the module has a single oval-shaped cutout, where two lenses are housed while the third sensor is placed separately, and so is the LED flash. Now, on the Pixel 8 Pro, all three sensors are placed in a single module. There is an LED flash and another circular ring, which could be the LiDAR sensor but we can’t say this for certain.
It seems the Google Pixel 8, on the other hand, will not come with major design changes and will look very similar to the Pixel 7.
Tensor G3 chipset: The upcoming Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones are expected to be powered by the in-house Tensor G3 chipset. While the technical details of the phones are not clear at the moment, we believe the new chipset will bring performance improvements to better take on Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple’s A-series chipsets.
Changes to display sizes: There will be changes in display sizes for the upcoming Pixel 8 series. According to rumours, the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a 6.52-inch QHD+ display with a resolution of 2822 x 1344 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a punch-hole cutout. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 is said to have a smaller 5.8-inch FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
In comparison, the Pixel 7 Pro had a large 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display, while the Pixel 7 came with a 6.3-inch screen.
Going by what has leaked so far, the Pixel 8 Pro will look different from its predecessor while the vanilla Pixel 8 will come with a more familiar design language. We should learn more about their hardware specifications in the coming weeks.
