After launching the Reno 8 series which is also available in India, OPPO is now expected to launch its Reno 9 series soon. Although certain details and charging specifications of the much expected Reno 9 series have already been tipped before, a new leak throws light on the lineup’s chipset. As per the by Digital Chat Station via Weibo, the OPPO Reno 9 will be equipped with older Snapdragon 778G SoC than the much anticipated Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series or MediaTek Dimensity 800 series.
The Reno 9 series is expected to come with a 4,500mAh battery with UFCS support, thereby making OPPO one of the first to adopt the new UFCS. The 40W charging support is much lower than the 80W charging speed supported by the Reno 8 series.
Reno 9 series processor
The latest leak suggests that the new Reno 9 series will be powered by the slightly older Snapdragon 778G than the much speculated Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 or the MediaTek Dimensity 800 series SoC. Currently, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is only available on Reno 8 Pro China variant and the Xiaomi Civi 2, and is exclusively limited to phones sold in the China market.
This rather seems like a downgrade for Reno 9 series’ processor as the competition is set to launch smartphones featuring new-generation chipsets which are more powerful and efficient.
Coming to the Snapdragon 778G, it is a mid-range 5G SoC that features a 2.4GHz max clock speed. Even though the smartphones with this processor have so far given excellent results with respect to their day-to-day performance and gaming, the upcoming contemporary smartphones will be powered by newer and powerful processors.
