5G in India will be launched on October 1st by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the India Mobile Congress 2022 event. Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla are expected to be present at the event. Sources in the know suggest that 5G services of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio will be the first ones to get launched by the Prime Minister and they will be available in a few cities initially. This comes in line with Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal’s recent letter to customers where he mentioned that 5G services will commence in a few weeks and that the SIMs are already 5G enabled.
Similarly, Mukesh Ambani had also announced that it will start rolling out the network by Diwali in major cities and then complete the rollout by December 2023. The company is planning on investing Rs 2 lakh crore to build its pan-India 5G network.

The telecom networks have also paid the upfront payments totalling around ₹17,873 crores to the Department of Telecommunications. Of that, Airtel paid Rs 8,312 crore, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea paid Rs 7,864 crores and Rs 1,680 crores, respectively. Adani Enterprises who was the first bidder paid around Rs 19 crores.
