Google Maps tests a new feature for in-app directions

The current version of Google Maps shows users the directions for the last selected travel mode by default. The mode will be set to driving by default if the user is opening the app for the first time on a new phone. Users who prefer public transport for commuting can also use the "Route options" selection from the triple-dot menu present near the routing box to filter down to specific modes that include -- bus, train, tram and subway.
