After eight months of beta testing, WhatsApp’s multi-device feature is now rolling out for all Android and iOS users. The multi-device support was earlier available for users under opt-in beta testing, allowing users to log in to four devices simultaneously. WhatsApp said that following the beta release, it has “seen an increase in people accessing” the messenger directly through the web. Now, the Facebook-owned instant messaging service announced the release of the stable version of the multi-device support.
The multi-device support is one of the most anticipated WhatsApp features. The feature allowed users to simultaneously use their WhatsApp account on up to four accounts. Moreover, users are not required to have the internet connection active on their primary device to access WhatsApp on other devices. So, ultimately, you don’t need your phone to be connected to the internet to use WhatsApp for web or PC.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the stable build of multi-device support is expected to roll out for iOS users this month, followed by an Android release next month. The report suggests that the login process will be faster while keeping things secure and improving the message organization, especially with considerable messages to be downloaded. Do note that you won’t be able to access features such as link preview, monitoring live location, stickers and more on the WhatsApp Web.
How to use the multi-device feature on WhatsApp
- First, open web.whatsapp.com or download WhatsApp Desktop on your PC.
- Now, on an Android device, you need to tap the three-dot menu and open ‘Linked Devices’ as an option. On iOS, tap the ‘Linked Devices’ in the “Settings” tab.
- After that, open the Linked Devices and scan the code shown at web.whatsapp.com or WhatsApp Desktop. Make sure both your smartphone and PC are connected to the internet.
- You will be logged into your WhatsApp account on WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop a few seconds after the code is scanned. Now you can use WhatsApp on your PC without an active internet connection on your smartphone.
