October, often dubbed as Techtober by the tech community, saw some big announcements from tech giants. Google announced the much-hyped Pixel 6 series, meanwhile, Apple stunned everyone with the refreshed MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch powered by the latest M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. In India, Motorola launched two new smartphones in the month of October: the Edge 20 Pro and E40. The Realme GT Neo2 also arrived in the country, while HMD Global took the wraps off Nokia XR20, the rugged smartphone, and the Nokia C30. Last but not least, the much-awaited Jio Phone Next debuted in the country. Here’s a recap of the smartphones launched in October 2021.
Motorola Edge 20 Pro
The Edge 20 Pro is the top of the line smartphone in the Edge 20 series. It brings an FHD+ 144Hz display, Snapdragon 870 and 108MP triple camera for Rs 36,999. As for the specifications, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro (review) features a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED panel with a refresh rate of 144Hz, HDR10+, 10-bit colour, and support for DCI-P3 colour gamut. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 870 paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage powers the smartphone. The Edge 20 Pro boasts a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. It packs a rear triple camera setup led by a 108MP primary sensor paired with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP periscope telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom. On the front, it has a 16MP camera housed inside the punch hole cutout. Lastly, the phone runs near-stock UI on top of Android 11 out of the box.
Realme GT Neo2
Realme GT Neo2 is another smartphone that got launched in India in October. The smartphone features a 6.62-inch FHD+ E4 AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 600Hz with 1300 nits brightness and 500000:1 contrast ratio. At the core of GT Neo2 lies Snapdragon 870 SoC coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal memory. The handset runs Android 11 based Realme UI 2.0. The smartphone boasts a 5,000mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging. The Realme GT Neo 2 comes with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree FoV and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, it gets a 16MP camera for selfies.
The Realme GT Neo2 price in India starts at Rs 31,999 for the 8GB+128GB storage variant.
Nokia C30
Nokia C30 comes with a 6.82-inch HD+ LCD panel with a waterdrop notch housing a 5MP camera for selfies. The smartphone is powered by a Unisoc SC9863A processor coupled with an IMG8322 GPU. The SoC inside is paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. A 6,000mAh battery with 10W charging support backs up the smartphone. The C30 features a dual rear camera setup, including a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor.
The 3GB+32GB storage variant of the Nokia C30 is priced at Rs 10,999, while the 4GB+64GB option retails for Rs 11,999.
Nokia XR20
Nokia XR20 is the company’s first rugged smartphone in the country. The XR20 comes with a military-grade design offering 4 years of security updates and 3 years of software updates. The smartphone features a 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Under the hood, Snapdragon 480 SoC powers the smartphone. The SoC inside is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. In optics, the Nokia handset comes with a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary sensor and a 13MP ultrawide camera with ZEISS optics. On the front, it has a 16MP camera for selfies. The smartphone boasts a 4,630mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
The Nokia XR20 retails for Rs 46,999 in India across all leading retail stores and Nokia.com.
Moto E40
Moto E40 features a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, and a waterdrop notch housing an 8MP selfie camera. The E40 comes with an IP52 rating, a dedicated button for Google Assistant and a fingerprint sensor. The smartphone is powered by a Unisoc T700 chipset paired with 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Moto smartphone runs a near-stock UI on top of Android 11 and packs a 48MP primary camera paired with a couple of 2MP cameras. The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery.
The Moto E40 is available in India for Rs Rs 9,499.
OPPO A55
OPPO A55 features a 6.51-inch HD+LCD panel with a peak brightness of 500 nits. Under the hood, A55 comes with Mediatek Helio G35 paired with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone sports a triple rear camera set up, including a 50MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor. On the front, it has a 16MP camera for selfies. It has a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
The 4GB+64GB storage option of OPPO A55 is priced at Rs 15,490, while the 6GB+128GB variant costs Rs 17,490.
Jio Phone Next
The Jio Phone Next (first impression) sports a 5.45-inch HD+ display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 chipset paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory under the core. The entry-level smartphone from Mukesh Ambani-promoted telco features a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front-facing camera. To keep things up and running, the Jio Phone Next packs a 3,000mAh battery. The smartphone runs Pragati OS powered by Android.
As for the price, the Jio Phone Next retails for Rs 6,499.
Redmi Note 10 Lite
After a year of its launch, Xiaomi refreshed the Redmi Note 9 with some minor tweaks under the hood. The Redmi Note 10 Lite, a rebadged Redmi Note 9, joins the Redmi Note 10, Redmi Note 10T 5G and Redmi Note 10S. The Redmi Note 10 Lite comes with a similar design as the Redmi Note 9. It features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD FHD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and a punch-hole cutout housing a 16MP front-facing camera. Under the hood, the Redmi Note 10 Lite is powered by the Snapdragon 720 chipset paired with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone comes with a quad rear camera setup consisting of a primary 48MP camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It boasts a 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.
The Redmi Note 10 Lite starts at Rs 13,999.
