Redmi hasn’t officially revealed much about the upcoming K50 series, but there have been enough leaks and rumours to satisfy our belly. The Redmi K50 line-up is expected to be announced later this year or early next year in China. It will also make its way to India in the following months. The series will reportedly include the standard Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and the top-end Redmi K50 Pro+. A new leak has now surfaced online stating that Redmi will go back to under-screen fingerprint scanners on the new K50 series.
Redmi K50 series features leaked
The Redmi K50 series will feature in-display fingerprint scanners, according to a report by MyDrivers. Redmi offered a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the K40 series. The report adds that the new K50 phones will use an advanced optical fingerprint scanner that should offer improved performance compared to older in-display scanners. The leaker also revealed that two of the new Redmi phones will feature the Snapdragon 778G chipset. Another rumour suggested that the Redmi K50 and the K50 Pro will use the Snapdragon 870 SoC. The Pro+ variant will be equipped with the Snapdragon 898 SoC and offer up to 120W fast charging support, as per reports.
Some specifications of the Redmi K50 series were recently leaked online. We expect Redmi to use an E5 AMOLED display on the new phones, which should nicely accommodate the optical fingerprint scanner. The new devices will mostly differ in terms of camera hardware, processor, and battery. Recent reports suggest that the Redmi K50 will come with a 48-megapixel rear camera, the K50 Pro will offer a 50-megapixel main unit, and the Pro+ will get a 108-megapixel sensor. Apart from that, the Pro+ variant will get 120W fast charging support, whereas the other models will max out at 100W.
We expect Xiaomi to announce the new Redmi phones in December or early January 2022. More details about the K50 series should be revealed in the coming weeks as the launch date gets closer.
