Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+, Snapdragon 695, Snapdragon 480+, and Snapdragon 680 budget and mid-range chipsets launched

Qualcomm has taken wraps off its newest mobile chipsets: the Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, Snapdragon 695 5G, Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G, and Snapdragon 680 4G. These are claimed to offer increased performance and provide OEMs with additional options to meet the existing demands. The Snapdragon 778G Plus is an enhanced version of Snapdragon 778G with booster CPU and GPU performance. It has Kyro 670 CPU that brings higher performance up to 2.5GHz compared to 2.4GHz on the standard 778G.

Snapdragon 695 is based on the 8nm design and comes as a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 690 Mobile Platform. It uses Kyro 660 CPU with up 2.2GHz clock speeds compared to 2GHz Kyro 560 cores in the predecessor. The Snapdragon 480G Plus is also the enhanced version of Snapdragon 480. Lastly, the Snapdragon 680 is a 6nm SoC and uses Qualcomm Kryo 265 CPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus: The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus ships with Adreno 642L GPU, which is claimed to deliver up to 20 percent faster graphics rendering compared to the previous generation. The rest of the specifications remain the same as the Snapdragon 778G. The chipset has Qualcomm Spectra 570L triple ISP and 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor that can deliver up to 12 TOPs AI performance. It brings Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch and integrates Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System and sub-6GHz 5G capabilities. It has support for up to 22MP triple cameras, up to 36MP + 22MP dual camera, up to 64MP single camera. The chipset has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G: The Snapdragon 680 is an octa-core processor with 2.4GHz Kryo 265 performance cores and Kryo 265 efficiency CPUs. It supports up to 8GB memory, 2x 16-bit LPDDR4x 2133MHz, eMMC, and UFS 2.2 storage. There is Adreno 610 GPU for graphics. There is Qualcomm Spectra 346 ISP with up to 32MP single camera, up to 16MP + 16MP dual camera, up to 13MP + 13MP + 5MP triple cameras with zero shutter lag and multi-frame noise reduction.

Snapdragon 680

The chipset has support for up to FHD+ 90Hz display, Snapdragon X11 LTE Modem, Quick Charge 3.0 technology, and up to 1080p video playback. It is equipped with Hexagon 686 DSP, Hexagon Vector eXtensions, and Hexagon Scalar Accelerator. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac with MU-MIMO 1×1, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, NavIC, GPS (L1/L5), QZSS, Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C, and NFC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G: The Snapdragon 696 8nm SoC, as we mentioned, is the successor to last year’s Snapdragon 690 Mobile Platform. It uses Qualcomm Kryo 660 GPU with up to 2.2GHz clock speed compared to 2GHz Kryo 560 cores in the predecessor. It promises up to 15 percent improvement over the previous generation. The chipset ships with the Qualcomm Adreno 619 GPU that promises up to a 30 percent increase in performance compared to the predecessor. It brings both sub-6GHz 5G and mmWave 5G support. 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus: The Snapdragon 480G Plus 8nm SoC is an improved version of the Snapdragon 480. It has Kryo 480 GPU that brings higher performance up to 2.2GHz compared to 2GHz in the Snapdragon 480. It has Adreno 619 GPU, which is the fastest in the 4-series, according to Qualcomm. The other specifications remain the same as the Snapdragon 480.

Snapdragon chipsets
  • Xiaomi confirmed it will launch phones with Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G and Snapdragon 695 5G chipsets. 
  • Vivo, Honor, and Motorola said they will use the new Snapdragon chipsets on their upcoming 4G and 5G devices.
  • OPPO confirmed it plans to introduce a device based on the new Snapdragon 695 chipset.
  • HMD Global has plans to launch phones with the Snapdragon 480 Plus chipset.
