Jio was down for many customers on Wednesday morning. Thousands of Jio users reported network issues on Downdetector.com and social media websites. #JioDown was trending as users were unable to make calls or browse the internet. According to Downdetector.com, the Jio network was down from 9:30 AM and reports peaked around noon. Affected cities included Delhi, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. While Jio has not released an official statement on the reason behind the outage, the telco is reportedly sending messages to affected users promising a complimentary 2-day unlimited plan.
Affected Jio users will get a 2-day unlimited plan for free
According to a report by The Indian Express, Reliance Jio is sending out a message to affected Jio users in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. As per the message, affected users will get a “2-day complimentary unlimited plan”. This plan will be applied automatically and will come into effect once the user’s ongoing plan expires.
Interestingly, the message is only being sent to affected users in two circles. It isn’t clear at the moment whether Jio will be offering the same unlimited 2-day plan to users affected in other circles. Several users in Delhi, Bengaluru, Indore, and Mumbai also faced network issues on Wednesday.
“Your service experience is our top priority. Unfortunately, this morning, you and a few other customers in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh faced service disruption. Although our teams were able to resolve this network issue in a matter of hours, we understand that it wasn’t a pleasant service experience for you, and we truly apologise for that,” Jio said in its message to affected customers.
A Jio official informed ET that there was a technical glitch that caused the outage and services have now been restored. Notably, the Jio outage took place a day after Facebook suffered a major outage that affected the social media site as well as WhatsApp and Instagram. The two outages, however, are not related.
