Realme X7 Max vs Xiaomi Mi 11X vs iQOO 7: battery comparison

The Realme X7 Max (review) is the Chinese smartphone maker’s latest offering in the affordable flagship space, a segment that is getting increasingly crowded with tons of options. The X7 Max is the first smartphone in the country to be powered by the new Dimensity 1200 5G chipset. The 6nm silicone from the Taiwanese chipmaker does pack in quite a punch when put up against one of its closest rivals, which comes in the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC which uses a 7nm process. A smaller fabrication process generally tends to indicate better power efficiency, which leads to lower battery consumption. The Realme X7 Max goes up against the Mi 11X (review) and the iQOO 7 (review), both of which are powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset. In this comparison, let’s find out how the battery life and charging speeds stack up amongst the three devices.

The Realme X7 Max and Mi 11X have identical 4,500mAh batteries, while the IQOO 7’s pack is rated slightly lower at 4,400mAh. The difference mostly lies in the charging speeds of the three devices. A good way to assess the battery life quantitatively is through PCMark’s Battery test. The benchmark simulates real-world usage of a smartphone and provides the time taken by the battery to drop from 100 percent to 20 percent. The Realme X7 Max, powered by the Dimensity 1200 chipset, did that in 12 hours and 90 minutes while the temperature on the device remained constant at 40 degrees. Xiaomi’s Mi 11X got a score of 15 hours and 39 minutes which is significantly higher, and the iQOO 7 lasted the longest, showing a time of 18 hours and 58 minutes.

The charging speeds on the devices are quite different. The Mi 11X has the slowest charging speed at 33W and it takes about 78 minutes to charge the device from 20-100 percent. In comparison, the Realme X7 Max is at second position with a 50W charging solution that will crank the battery up from 20 to 100 percent in 47 minutes. At the top is the iQOO 7 which has one of the fastest charging speeds in the segment at 65W. It can charge up the battery from 20 to 100 percent in 45 minutes. None of the devices showed any unusual heating while charging.

I also ran half an hour of Call of Duty Mobile on each device to check battery drain. Note that all phones were running the game at the highest setting. The Realme X7 Max dropped about 5 percent of battery after 30 minutes of gaming. The battery drop on the Mi 11X and the IQOO 7 was 4 percent and 6 percent respectively.

Verdict

Based on these tests, it does appear that in real-world scenarios, the iQOO 7 should last longer on a single charge than its nearest rivals, even though it has a lower capacity battery. Therefore, the iQOO 7 emerges as the winner here, lasting the longest in the battery test, and offering the fastest charging speed among the contenders.
