realme Smart TV 4K powered by MediaTek overview: the new stalwart in the affordable UHD segment

realme has entrenched itself in the Indian smart TV market now. After the success of its Smart TV and Smart SLED TVs series, the company has now upped the ante by launching the new Smart TV 4K range, which, as you would expect, includes Ultra-HD screens with HDR support. Powered by MediaTek, the realme Smart TV 4K comes in two sizes – 43 inches and 50 inches, and they leverage the Android TV platform for their smart-tv functions. More importantly, these two units come with Dolby Vision® HDR technology and Dolby Atmos® immersive audio support, which guarantee superior visual and aural experiences. Priced at Rs 27,999 and Rs 39,999, they are set to pose a real competition to the rivals. Let us see what makes them special.

Dolby Vision® 4K display

The short answer to the question ‘what is Dolby Vision?’ is stunning picture quality. The slightly longer answer is that it is a standard for 4K UHD screens that allows the screens to render visuals in a high dynamic range. This means not only do you get high contrast levels even at high brightness settings, but also a remarkable colour range. All this at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels should make any movie or TV show you’re watching a visual treat. The TVs also come with the TÃœV Low Blue Light Certification, which will prove beneficial to you if you’re someone who loves binge-watching, as it reduces the harmfulness of blue light coming from the screens.

Like other MediaTek-powered realme Smart TVs, these new models also ship with the much-loved Chroma Boost Picture Engine. This technology further enhances the visuals by using advanced algorithms to improve their brightness, colour, contrast, and clarity levels. Not only do these TVs have good viewing angles, but they also sport a near bezel-less design, with just 2.6mm of space separating the display from the edge. This narrow bezel leads to a screen-to-body ratio of 97.2 percent, which in turn, translates into more immersive viewing.

Dolby Atmos® immersive audio

So what if you can’t go to the movies because of the pandemic. Dolby Atmos will bring theatre-like sound quality right to your living room. This next-gen surround sound technology that has been adopted by the realme Smart TV 4K range expands on existing surround sound channels by adding a height dimension. This change makes a massive difference in the movie-watching experience. Whether it’s discreet dialogue or a distant explosion, every detail comes alive in rich clarity and depth, so you don’t miss a thing. This incredible sound output comes from four 24W speakers, each consisting of one full-range speaker and one tweeter. The use of this two-tone soundbox design adds further depth to the sound. Plus, the symmetrical location of speakers creates a balanced left and right channel output. This entire assembly enables these 4K TVs to deliver an incredibly wide sound range of 148Hz to 20,000Hz.

Hands-free voice control and Android TV benefits

Like most other smart TVs in the market, these realme offerings come with microphone-enabled remote controls. However, what makes them unique is they also bear four microphones on their surfaces. This means, you no longer have to search through your sofa slits to find the remote whenever you wish to access voice control. The strong mics on the smart TVs will pick up your “Hey Google” commands and let you control the interface. Not only does this mean you can navigate to the TV shows and movies of your choice using your voice, but you can even control your smart home appliances through your TV. That’s pretty slick if you ask us.

Realme Smart TV - Android TV support

Android TV based on Android 10 has made its way to the new MediaTek-powered realme Smart TV 4K range. It’s the perfect interface for content discovery and voice search, and it also offers the benefits of Google Assistant. The entire Google Play Store library is accessible for grabbing tons of apps and games to indulge in. And since Chromecast is built-in, you use the realme Smart TV 4K for casting content wirelessly from your phone. Perhaps a Google Photos album of 2019’s Diwali when the whole family was together would be a great choice for casting and reliving the pre-pandemic moments.

Unlimited entertainment at your fingertips

Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video are all pre-installed on the realme Smart TV 4K. What’s more, they can all be accessed through hotkeys that are present on the remote control. There’s a fourth hotkey as well, which lets you access Google Assistant. The remote has been designed ergonomically through precise weighting, and its grip is suited for adapting to palm curvatures. Its lightweight nature is the result of using composite polymer materials, while its front surface has been crafted to offer a more natural and real touch.

Powerful MediaTek processor

Smart TVs of this caliber require strong processing power at their hearts, and these realme TVs get that from the MediaTek chipset. MediaTek is the world’s largest chipset provider for smart TVs, and its chipsets power the TV Brands we love. The MediaTek chipsets bring incredible performance and advanced intelligence. With support for up to 8K display, the latest HDR standards, and imaging enhancements, MediTek empowers TV manufacturers to deliver immersive and brilliant picture quality. Talking about the Smart TV 4K, the chipset offers the benefits of a 64-bit quad-core CPU and a Mali G52 GPU. Moreover, there’s 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage are on board as well. This hardware is enough to ensure that all your streaming platforms and Android apps and games run smoothly on the TVs all the time. Android TV benefits a lot from this capable hardware as it allows it to offer a smooth user experience.

Multiple connectivity options

2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands are supported by these realme smart TV 4K models, while you can also use a LAN cable to get them connected to the internet. Their Bluetooth 5.0 support enables you to connect wireless headphones for some nighttime binging while everyone else is asleep. You can also use this attribute to connect a Bluetooth controller for playing games or a microphone for some karaoke singing. As for the ports, you get the standard trifecta of HDMI inputs, with one of them supporting Audio Return Channel (ARC), so you can use the same HDMI cable to send audio from a TV back to a receiver or a soundbar. Two USB 2.0 ports, one AV port, one tuner port, one ANT port, and one audio-out port also form part of the array.

Build to last

The realme Smart TV 4K range models ship with integrated PCB designs that make wiring simpler and decrease maintenance costs. These TVs also support a wide voltage range of 100V to 240V to protect them from damage due to unstable voltage. The Smart TV 4K models have cleared a series of strict quality tests, including running at -20℃ low temperatures, withstanding 760mm drops, running through 5500 on-off cycles, and more. As for the warranty, you get a one-year standard warranty, along with another year of screen warranty.

Bottom line

These are certainly the new TVs to beat in the Indian market in their price range. With Dolby Vision® HDR technology, Dolby Atmos® immersive audio, Android TV, and so much more, the realme Smart TV 4K provides real bang for the buck. The 43-inch model of the realme Smart TV 4K is priced at Rs 27,999, whereas the 50-inch model can be yours at Rs 39,999.
