Highlights
  • Xiaomi unveils HyperCharge technology with 200W wired and 120W wireless charging solutions.

There have been some exceptional innovations in the charging speed of smartphones over the past few years. Earlier, 10W or 18W charging was considered to be fast. Today, however, we have phones such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and the iQOO 7 that can charge at a jaw-dropping speed of 120W. While many of us thought that the charging speed of smartphones has reached a saturation point, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Today, Xiaomi has taken the battle of smartphone charging speed to the next level by showcasing HyperCharge technology with 200W wired and 120W wireless charging solutions in a custom build of the Mi 11 Pro.

Xiaomi 200W HyperCharge technology revealed

In a new post on Twitter, Xiaomi has showcased a new charging technology called HyperCharge. It offers 200W wired charging and 120W wireless charging. Xiaomi has demonstrated the new technology with a custom build of the Mi 11 Pro smartphone. The 200W wired charging can fill the 4,000mAh battery of the Mi 11 Pro from 0 to 100 per cent in just 8 minutes setting a new world record for smartphone charging speed. The 120W wireless charging sets a new world as well by filling up the battery of the Mi 11 Pro from empty to full in just 15 minutes.

Having a phone charged from 0-100 in under 10 minutes will be very convenient for users. However, it could have adverse effects on the health of the battery. Xiaomi hasn’t said anything on how it plans to protect the battery health while charging the smartphone at such a high wattage. Hopefully, we will get a deeper dive into the HyperCharge tech soon. Also, the Chinese smartphone maker hasn’t revealed if the HyperCharge technology will actually make it to any of its smartphones. Even if Xiaomi plans to bring this technology to its upcoming smartphones, it will take quite a lot of time for the brand to do so as it will have to solve a lot of issues that will arise with high wattage charging.
