PUBG Mobile India user data still accessible despite Battlegrounds Mobile India launch: report

Highlights
  • PUBG Mobile Indian user data is still accessible even after the game’s ban in the country.
  • Tencent had stopped Indian server access to PUBG Mobile back in October 2020.
  • Battlegrounds Mobile India release date is said to be June 18th.

PUBG Mobile was banned in India back in September and after numerous efforts to make a comeback, the company couldn’t until recently. Krafton had recently announced Battlegrounds Mobile India with new privacy rules, gameplay changes, restrictions, among others. However, according to reports, it looks like PUBG Mobile India user data is still accessible. This comes after it was rumoured that the PUBG Mobile user account and inventory would be migrated to Battlegrounds Mobile India and Indian Express had independently verified whether PUBG Mobile user data for an Indian account is accessible at the moment.

Krafton’s PUBG Mobile does retain your data from Tencent’s PUBG Mobile. A quick look at my personal account in Krafton’s PUBG Mobile (which is still somewhat playable in India via unofficial means), revealed that all my account data accumulated over the years in Tencent’s PUBG Mobile is intact. This included rewards, statistics, and other unlockables, which I had acquired since PUBG Mobile had launched in India. Everything was intact despite the switch in publishers,” the Indian Express report claims.

The mention of ‘unofficial means’ suggests PUBG Mobile was perhaps accessed through VPN. Right after the PUBG ban in India, there were reports about the game being playable with a VPN. However, the gameplay wouldn’t be as smooth as playing without a VPN as there would be a lag in shooting and movements.

Battlegrounds Mobile India

To recall, Tencent had stopped Indian server access to PUBG Mobile back in October 2020 and it looks like Krafton has gained access to the Indian user data. The Indian Express latest revelation suggests that Krafton could carry forward the user data to Battlegrounds Mobile India if it decides so. However, there are reports claiming that Krafton may not carry forward PUBG Mobile user data to Battlegrounds Mobile India. Only time will tell whether the game would see any end-gates from the regulatory bodies over any misuse of user data or non-compliance of guidelines.

Battlegrounds Mobile India release date is said to be June 18th and the game is up for pre registration on the Google Play Store. Krafton is also planning to launch the game for iOS users. Battlegrounds Mobile India pre registration will also give users exclusive rewards.
