Android 11 has been out for a long time, yet several Nokia phones haven’t received the update yet. Usually, HMD Global delivers fast software updates since most of the Nokia phones run stock Android software or Android Go. However, things have been different with the Android 11 update, and several devices are yet to get the update. HMD Global was originally expected to finish the Android 11 rollout to its devices by Q2 2021 but has now pushed it to Q3 2021.
HMD Global Android 11 update timeline
HMD Global sells Nokia devices that run stock Android and has always delivered major software updates on time. It’s disappointing to see that’s not with the Android 11 release. Almost a year has gone by, and most Nokia smartphones haven’t received the update. The company also just announced a new timeline, stating that some devices will receive the update later at the end of Q3 2021.
For starters, the Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 7.2, and the Nokia 6.2 are now scheduled to get the update in Q3 2021. Other mid-range and budget Nokia devices such as the Nokia 3.4, Nokia 5.3, Nokia 5.4, Nokia 1 Plus, Nokia 2.4, will be getting the Android 11 update in Q2 2021. The Nokia 4.2, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 2.2, and Nokia 2.3 are scheduled to receive the update at the end or beginning of Q1/Q2 2021. The latest Nokia 8.3 5G and the Nokia 3.2 should receive the update very soon.
The Nokia 1.3, Nokia 1 Plus, and Nokia 1.4 are Android GO devices and still haven’t received the update. Google released the stable version of Android 11 back in September last year, and while a lot of other manufacturers have already released the update, HMD Global is lagging behind. Some Nokia devices haven’t even received the security updates and are stuck on March versions. Google will soon release the stable version of Android 12, which means that Nokia users may have to wait a lot longer than expected.
