5 phones that received price cuts in India recently: LG Wing, Realme 8, and more

We all love a good discount on smartphones. However, they are few and far between, as OEMs often operate on razor-thin margins that don’t allow them to reduce the price of a smartphone any lower. Very often, the discounts only come during festive sales or when a new product has been launched. Recently, we saw quite a few smartphones getting hefty discounts- some as high as 40,000 for the LG Wing. However, that is more of an exception, than the norm. Other phones that got noticeable price cuts in India include the original Moto Razr, which saw a Rs 20,000 reduction in price, the Realme 8, OPPO A53, and the OPPO F17 Pro. Let’s take a look at what these have in store for us.

LG Wing: Discounted by Rs 40,000

LG Wing price in India massively discounted

Now that LG’s smartphone division is no more, it had to offload the existing stock somewhere. LG never really sold a lot of smartphones in India, so it resorted to selling its flagship smartphone at throwaway prices. Even today, one can buy an LG Wing for Rs 29,990- a full Rs 40,000 lower than its original price. However, stocks are limited, so it’s best if you go get yours now. It’s not like LG is making more of these. Do get your hands on one of them if you can. The LG Wing is undoubtedly one of the most unique smartphones made in 2020. It packs some impressive hardware too.

Moto Razr: Discounted by Rs 20,000

Motorola’s foray into foldable smartphones was, interesting, to say the least. At that point, the company hadn’t launched a flagship smartphone in over a year, so one couldn’t help but wonder how the Moto Razr came to be. A foldable smartphone is nice and all, but the Moto Razr’s underwhelming internals are simply not worth the premium you pay for a screen that bends. There are plenty of regular smartphones that offer much better hardware for the price, and, the best part is, you don’t have to worry about a speck of dust ruining your device.

OPPO F17 Pro: Discounted by Rs 3,000

OPPO F17 Pro

OPPO launched the F17 Pro for Rs 22,990 in India. Most of its spec sheet justified the seemingly exorbitant price. It packed an AMOLED screen, 48MP quad rear cameras, and a 4,000mAh battery that supported 30W fast charging. However, for reasons best known to OPPO, it decided to ship the OPPO F17 Pro with a MediaTek Helio P95 chipset. Although it was launched in early 2020, the Helio P95 uses older ARM Cortex-A75 cores- a full two generations behind the latest Cortex A77 cores (at that time). Even at Rs 19,990, the OPPO F17 Pro is still somewhat underwhelming, given that you can buy a better-specced Realme 8 Pro

OPPO A53: Discounted by Rs 2,500

OPPO launched the OPPO A53 in India all the way back in August 2020 for Rs 12,990. You can now buy it for Rs 10,990 for the 4GB/64GB variant. The question is, should you? While it offers a 90Hz screen, it caps the resolution at HD+, which is somewhat unacceptable, given that there are plenty of FHD+ alternatives available for the price. Furthermore, its Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chip isn’t doing any good, either. Lastly, its 13MP triple rear camera setup is flat-out underwhelming compared to some of the others on the market.

Realme 8 discounted by Rs 500

Realme’s decision to slash the Realme 8’s price by Rs 500 was driven purely by the intent to undercut Xiaomi’s new Redmi Note 10S. This is, what the kids call, a ‘bruh’ moment. The Redmi Note 10S launched a few days ago for Rs 14,999. The Realme 8 will now set you back by Rs 14,499. Rs 500 isn’t really a lot of money- most users would happily fork that out if they thought that it was a better deal. The fact that both devices are nearly identical doesn’t help in the slightest. You could pick up either one and it would still be excellent value for your money.
