The Sony Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III are the latest and the greatest flagships from the Japanese brand. The company just announced these new devices, which are powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset. The phones also bring a world-first feature, namely a variable telephoto camera. Both phones are equally equipped, but the Xperia 5 III is the cheaper variant as it features a smaller display and less RAM. Sony hasn’t provided the price details for these phones, nor has it told us about the availability. Nevertheless, let’s take a look the specifications of the new Sony Xperia phones.
Sony Xperia 1 III specifications
The Xperia 1 III is the slightly more equipped variant of the two and features a better display and more RAM. It has a 6.5-inch OLED display that offers 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor, which is paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. Sony has also included a microSD card slot to allow for storage expansion. It also gets a headphone jack, and a 4,500mAh battery with fast charging support. The device has a side mounted fingerprint scanner, no notch, front firing stereo speakers, and 5G connectivity.
Now, let’s talk about the cameras, the main selling point of the Xperia 1 III and the 5 III. The device features a triple rear camera setup that comprises of three 12-megapixel sensors. There’s a primary 12-megapixel sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a third 12-megapixel telephoto periscope unit that comes with dual focal length. You can switch between 70mm and 105mm focal length for optical zoom, a first in the world of mobile cameras. With this, buyers of the smartphone will be able to switch between the focal length more than ever for a better portrait effect. There’s also a 8-megapixel selfie camera up front.
Sony Xperia 5 III specifications
Coming to the smaller and more compact Xperia 5 III, this phone is very similar to the Xperia 1 III in most ways. It gets the same performance from a Snapdragon 888 SoC, albeit with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The display is also smaller at 6.1-inches and offers Full HD resolution with 120Hz refresh rate. The rear triple camera setup is same on both the phones, so you do get all the goodies such as the variable telephoto camera. Both smartphones also get IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
Sony hasn’t given out any details on the pricing or the availability of the phones yet. However, you can expect the Xperia 1 III to be priced upwards of $1000.
