The recently-launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset promises to bring 5G connectivity to low-cost smartphones. It was slated to make its debut alongside an OPPO, Vivo or HMD Global-branded smartphone. We spotted an OPPO phone running the chipset on Geekbench a few days ago. However, Vivo seems to be one step ahead of the pack and has launched the Vivo Y31s, the world’s first-ever smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480. For now, the Vivo Y31s is only available in China. However, it shouldn’t be long before we find out the Vivo Y31s India launch date, as its global launch seems imminent.
Vivo Y31s price in India
Based on its Chinese price (RMB 1,498), we can expect the Vivo Y31s price in India to be around Rs 17,000 for the variant with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will set you back by RMM 1,698 (roughly Rs 19,000). It is available in three colours, namely, Red, Gray, and Aurora.
Vivo Y31s specifications
Key Vivo Y31s specs include a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2408 × 1080 pixels) IPS LCD panel that has a refresh rate of 90Hz. It is interrupted by a waterdrop-style notch at the centre, which houses the smartphone’s 8MP selfie camera. Despite its somewhat hefty price tag, the Vivo Y31s only comes with two rear cameras, a 13MP primary lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. At the very least, the Vivo Y31s lets you record 4K videos at 30fps.
Despite the lacklustre camera, the Vivo Y31s will make for an excellent low-cost 5G phone, as its Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks. Other Vivo Y31s features include a 5,000mAh battery that supports fast charging at 18W, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Bluetooth. The smartphone will run Android 11 customised with FunTouch OS 10.5 out of the box.
