Motorola Edge S AnTuTu benchmark scores show the performance of Snapdragon 870 SoC

Highlights
  • Motorola Edge S AnTuTu screenshot was shared by a company executive on social media
  • The smartphone scored 679860 on the benchmarking app
  • This score puts the Snapdragon 870 chipset squarely between the Snapdragon 865+ and  888

The Motorola Edge S launch has been scheduled officially for January 26th by the company as the world’s first Snapdragon 870-powered handset, with leaks revealing much of what the smartphone will be about. Now, ahead of next week’s launch, the company’s General Manager Chen Jin has posted a screenshot of the phone’s AnTuTu performance. This is the first time we are seeing what the new Snapdragon 870 chipset is capable of and, along expected lines, it will offer flagship-grade performance but not at the same level as Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888 SoC. However, the Motorola Edge S may be capable of more, but more on that in a minute.

The Motorola Edge S AnTutu performance screenshot posted on Weibo by Jin shows that the smartphone notched up a composite score of 679860. Breaking it down, the smartphone got 189,694 in the CPU performance, 290268 in display, 103322 for RAM, and 96576 for UX. This number is about 100,000 lower than the highest score we have seen on AnTuTu, i.e. the figure that the Snapdragon 888-powered Black Shark 4 recently recorded on the app. Here’s a look at the highest recently-recorded AnTuTu scores (all by Snapdragon 888-powered phones):

Compared to Snapdragon 865+, however, the score delivered by the Snapdragon 870-based Motorola Edge S is definitely an improvement. On the AnTuTu benchmarking app, the average Snapdragon 865+ score hovers around 640000.

Motorola Edge S will be able to deliver better benchmark scores, according to the company’s engineering team.

But there’s still room for improvement in Motorola Edge S performance. Jin wrote on Weibo that the upcoming smartphone will be able to deliver better scores according to the company’s engineering team. Of course, we will have to wait a few days before we can see whether the market-released device is able to achieve better AnTuTu scores and which areas it improves upon.

Motorola Edge S specifications

As for the rest of the Motorola Edge S specifications, the smartphone is said to be the long-rumoured Motorola Nio device. It will reportedly feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with 105Hz refresh rate and punch-hole design, up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Android 11, and a 5,000mAh battery. Camera specifications of the Motorola Edge S will include a 64MP quad rear camera setup and 16MP + 8MP dual selfie sensors.
