Of late, realme emphasizes its lifestyle accessories over its core products in the emerging markets. Over the past few months, we have witnessed a host of AIoT products launch in Nepal, including realme’s first-ever smartwatch, the realme Watch, the realme Band, and the affordable AirPods like (just the design) realme Buds Air. The Chinese tech company has expanded its portfolio by bringing a cheaper version of its TWS earbuds- the realme Buds Air Neo.
Design-wise, the realme Buds Air Neo looks identical to its sibling, the realme Buds Air. But for the price, realme has skipped a few features. While the realme Buds Air support wireless charging (which is quite a feature hard to find in the affordable TWS earbuds segment), the realme Buds Air Neo doesn’t offer the feature.
But for the affordability, at least you get touch gestures for playback controls. Also, there is a low-latency game mode as well that can be accessed by tapping and holding on both earbuds.
As compared to realme Buds Air that comes with 12mm drivers, the Buds Air Neo has 13mm drivers. The larger drivers don’t make a significant difference; however, the earbuds are tuned to provide a slightly better audio output than the older sibling. The realme Buds Air Neo is IPX4 rated water-resistant.
Similar to the Buds Air TWS, the Buds Air Neo equips the custom R1 chip for dual-channel transmission and better connectivity. The earbuds support the AAC codec and have Bluetooth v5.0 for connectivity.
For easy pairing, realme has embedded Google Fast Pair on the earbuds. Although the company hasn’t clearly mentioned the battery backup of the realme Buds Air Neo, the charging case, however, reads 400mAh battery. The earbuds are claimed to last three hours at a moderate volume and deliver up to 17 hours with the charging case.
Realme Buds Air Neo: Add-on
As mentioned, the new realme Buds Air Neo comes with slightly larger 13mm dynamic drivers. The audio quality on Buds Air Neo is comparatively better than on the Buds Air TWS earbuds.
Apart from the low-latency game mode, you get the option to customize the touch gestures as well. The customization can be done via the realme Link app.
Upon opening the app, you will find the realme Buds Air Neo option on the home tab. Tapping on the option will lead to a list of available gestures, and you can click on the arrows next to each gesture and select the ones you prefer.
realme Buds Air Neo: What’s missing?
The new realme Buds Air Neo doesn’t have a proximity sensor, and unlike the Buds Air, it doesn’t bundle a secondary microphone for surround noise cancellation. Given the earbuds cost slightly cheap than its sibling, realme opted for a micro-USB port instead of USB-C and skipped the wireless charging support.
