GoPro is back in action with its new Hero9 Black flagship camera. The action camera bags a bunch of upgrades from 5K video recording capability, front display to a significantly massive 1,720mAh removable battery. The GoPro Hero9 Black is the top model with 5K at 30fps video capture.
The GoPro Hero9 Black 2020 Edition has launched for a price of $449.99. However, you can get a good discount on the action camera with GoPro’s one-year subscription, which would bring down the price to $349.99 (subscription included).

GoPro has entirely revamped the design of the Hero9 Black. Unlike the previous models, the new 2020 action camera now offers a front-facing LCD color display, which will come in handy for vloggers or regular shoots. The 1.4-inch display can give live video preview of the recording and some shooting information.
The GoPro Hero9 Black Action Camera features a beefy body to house the big 1,720mAh battery. GoPro claims that the new action camera should deliver a 30% improvement in battery life over its predecessor.
Moving on, the Hero9 Black comes with updated software, including HyperSmooth 3.0, for improved stabilization (in rough terrains or bumpy roads). The feature even brings Boost stabilization in all resolution and horizon levelling, previously available only in the GoPro app. The Time Warp 3.0 now brings the ability to slow down hyper-lapse video in real-time with audio briefly.
With the Hero9 Black camera, GoPro has brought back the option to remove the lens. You can even attach the new Max Lens Mod, which has Max HyperSmooth video stabilization and can lock the horizon when it’s rotated 360 degrees.
While the camera comes with significant software updates, GoPro hasn’t made much change to the internals. The Hero9 Black no doubt sports a sizeable 23.6MP image sensor; however, the sensor size is similar to that of the previous iteration. Underneath the hood, you will find the same GP1 processor, as seen on GoPro Hero8 Black.
But with improved resolution, the GoPro Hero 9 Black can now shoot at 20MP, up from 12-megapixels on the Hero8 Black. That aside, the new action camera has a few software tricks under its sleeves like Hindsight, Schedule Capture, and Duration Capture.
Hindsight stores a 15-30 second buffer for video, and once you press the shutter button for recording, it will start with the video stored in the buffer. Schedule Capture and Duration Capture, on the other hand, allow you to set a specific time and date, or set the recording time of a particular event.
The GoPro Hero9 Black has a water resistance of up to 10 meters. It has a single microSD slot and a USB-C port for charging. Similar to the Hero8 Black, it has foldable mounting fingers.

GoPro has announced the price and availability of a few ‘Mod’ accessories alongside the flagship camera’s debut. The new GoPro Hero9 Black Camera Max Lens Mod will be available in the US in October for a price of $99.99.
Meanwhile, a new GoPro Hero9 Black Camera Media Mod, which is said to bring an improved microphone and add advantage to the built-in directional mic and 3.5mm audio port, has been priced at $79.99. There’s also a GoPro Hero9 Camera Display Mod, which will be compatible with Hero9 Black and Hero8 Black camera. It comes for a cost of $79.99.
